NICHOLSON is a composer, singer-songwriter and keyboardist based out of Mumbai. His original compositions are a blend of electronic and organic sounds and are a direct reflection of his outlook on life and love.
He grew up playing piano in Pune and later honed his skills at the St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia, Canada where he studied Jazz piano for four years. After spending the next three years in the UK, he returned to India in 2013, to pursue his passion for music. In Mumbai He met with Rohan Ramanna, music producer and partner at the Cotton Press Studio- where he eventually wrote and recorded his first EP ‘For What’ which he released in May, 2014 at the National Centre for Performing Arts in Mumbai to a sold out theatre.
Since, he has played to audiences across the country at venues such as The High Spirits Cafe, Blue Frog, Mehboob Studios and Sitara Studios to name a few, as well as at festivals such as Magnetic Fields and NH7. 2014 Also saw the release of Nicholson’s second EP, “Cold water”, as well as collaberations with electronic producer Sandunes, and Film maker Sachin Pillai.
His Ensemble is straying away from the traditional ‘band setup’. He aims to create sound sculptures by treating machines as instruments in a very emotive, organic manner. Being heavily influenced by Jazz, Folk, Pop and Electronic music, he aims to blend these genres to create a live show that stylistically evolves. This is an exciting new wave of music, which is focused on achieving the highest levels of produc- tion both live and on record.
