About

Kokrebellur or Kokkarebellur is a village in the Mandya district of Karnataka. The village gets its name from the stork called ‘kokkare’ in the Kannada language. An idyllic place for the bird watchers, the village is home to two of the rarest bird species in the world – Painted Storks and Spot-billed Pelicans. You can catch the birds in flight, roaming around the village in large numbers. The unique bond between the villagers and these birds is a testament of the positive effects of ecology conservation.
What To Look Out For: Apart from the already mentioned bird species, you can also find the Black Ibis in the vicinity.
