Freedom Jam is a movement of musicians to promote live music performances by contemporary artistes of different styles from classical to rock, without commercial constraints. The artistes perform without fees and the audience enjoys the music without tickets – Hence Freedom Jam - "No Bread"!

The festival started in Bengaluru in August 1996 to coincide with the nation's 50th anniversary celebrations creating an independent platform for Indian musicians to express themselves. This year will witness the 20th edition of Freedom Jam in Bengaluru.

The festival has been conducted in Pondicherry for the last twelve years and several times in Chennai and Goa. Many stalwarts of the country's music scene have been part of Freedom Jam over the years: Raghu Dixit, Lucky Ali, Vasundhara Das, Benny Dayal, Konark Reddy, Pandit Debiprasad, Prakash Sontakke, Mishko M'ba, Babu Joseph, Ramesh Shottam, Matt Littlewood, etc as well as successful bands like Avial, Swarathma, Thermal & A Quarter, Ministry of Blues, De Sat, Moon Arra,

Lounge Piranha, to name just a few.

Every year fresh talent bursts on the scene, showcasing their music at our monthly Sunday Jams on the first Sunday of every month, with the best bands selected for the annual Freedom Jam that coincides with the Independence Day weekend. Many of them go on to carve successful careers in music with this valuable experience.

Freedom Jam attracts the musically minded, youthful, adventurous, pioneers and tastemakers of the social milieu.

Over the years it has become an institution in Bengaluru bringing great joy to musicians and music lovers in the city.
