KYNKYNY Art and carpet collector Danny Mehra present CARPET STORIES 4, an exhibition and sale of rare tribal carpets from Iran, Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and various Kurdish enclave
Between 2012-2014, we hosted three exhibitions of tribal carpets from several famous weaving regions outside India. These may well have been the first such exhibitions in Bangalore, maybe even in India. The folks who came enjoyed wading through piles of colourful tribal weavings and chatting with the collector about his esoteric hobby -- the most rewarding and common response we got was that they had not seen such unique weavings before!
CARPET STORIES 4 is an exhibition and sale of 100 tribal carpets from Danny Mehra’s personal collection, showcased on 3rd, 4th and 5th September, 2015 at Kynkyny Art. The carpets date from the mid-19th to early 20th century. During that period, many weaving groups from these regions were nomadic and migrated for climatic reasons, so the weavings they produced are a fantastic potpourri of many diverse ethnicities, tribal lifestyles and indigenous customs.
