The countdown to the happiest music festival has begun and we're bringing it in with a cracker of a gig.
Come catch Big City Harmonics work his magic and setting the tone right for NH7 Weekender in Bangalore.
Big City Harmonics is a live electronica act operated by Rohan Hastak. The music is produced using a combination of sampled elements and original compositions.
Rohan started out as a guitar player before joining Kuru (now Poacher) as bass player and co-songwriter while studying in Canada. The band released their first EP within a year of forming and completed a month long tour shortly afterwards. During this time, Rohan became interested in the production of organic, beat driven electronica. Influenced by the likes of Bonobo, Four Tet and Nightmares on Wax, Rohan’s practical knowledge made it easy for him to dive right into sampling and looping which is an integral part of trip hop, while being a bass player turned out to be an added advantage.
So far, all his releases have been available for free download. He intends to continue this trend with his upcoming official releases. Since his first 7 tracks were released in March 2013, he has played at venues like High Spirits (Pune), Blue Frog and Mangiamo; and has supported artists like Max Cooper, Dj Uri and Sandunes.
Big City Harmonics’ first EP was launched in October 2013.
Although Big City Harmonics is primarily a solo effort, the aim is to constantly invite other musicians on stage so that the live act continues to remain engaging. Plans are currently in place for a full-fledged live band.
